Resulting from a project launched by the new Volkswagen Design office of Los Angeles in 1992, the 'Studie concept-1' is inspired by the famous VW Beetle, symbol of the make in the US. The concept was presented for pleasure at the Detroit Auto Show in 1994, and faced with the enthusiasm of the press and the enormous success of this design study, Volkswagen decided in 1995 to produce this model with the name of New Beelte. Produced in Puebla, in Mexico, the first deliveries occurred on the American market from March 1998, and 6 months later in Europe. Concerning the motorizations, there is something for every taste, from the small 1.4l 75hp to the V5 2.5l 152hp in gasoline and a 1.9 TDi of 100 to 115hhp in Diesel. It should also be noted that 250 copies of a sporting version were produced, with the name of New Bettle RSI, equipped with a V6 3.2l gasoline of 250hp (the one of the Golf R32). The career of the VW New Beetle ended in 2011 with the presentation of its successor, which took the name of Beetle.
