Product description

Product description

The leather in a classic car ages over time: it dries out, loses its lustre and eventually cracks. The Mecatechnic leather care kit has been designed to preserve it: three complementary products to clean, nourish and protect the leather without damaging it.

Kit contents

  • AUTOGLYM ‘Leather Cleaner’, 500 ml
  • AUTOGLYM ‘Leather Care Balm’ leather cream, 500 ml
  • Multi-purpose microfibre cloth

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Dust the leather. Vacuum using a soft brush attachment, paying particular attention to the seams and creases, where dust and sand tend to accumulate. (These particles act like sandpaper on the leather if rubbed.)
  2. Clean the leather. Spray or pour the cleaner onto the microfibre cloth folded into quarters; never apply it directly to the leather. Work in small sections – for example, one seat or backrest at a time – using gentle, light strokes without applying pressure. Pay slightly more attention to high-friction areas: seat cushions, armrests and the steering wheel.
  3. Remove any residue. Rinse the microfibre cloth with clean water, wring it out thoroughly, then wipe the leather to remove the cleaner and any dirt. Leave to dry naturally, out of direct sunlight, before moving on to the next step. Dry the microfibre cloth at the same time.
  4. Condition the leather. On clean, dry leather, apply a small amount of cream to a clean, dry microfibre cloth, then spread it in a thin, even layer, following the contours of the seat. Leave it to soak in for a few minutes.
  5. Polish and protect. Using a clean, dry side of the microfibre cloth, remove any excess and smooth the finish. The leather should feel supple and not greasy to the touch. (Avoid the pedals, the steering wheel if it is slippery, the windows and any fabric parts.)

Tips

  • Always test products on an inconspicuous area before treating the entire upholstery, especially on old or previously restored leather.
  • Avoid working in direct sunlight or on hot leather: the product would dry too quickly.
  • If using a single microfibre cloth, rinse it and leave it to dry between cleaning and applying the cream.
  • Condition the leather two to four times a year, depending on the vehicle’s usage and exposure.
  • Avoid using too much water on the leather, especially if it is fragile or cracked.
  • Wash the microfibre cloth separately, without fabric softener, to preserve its absorbency.

Who is it for?

Whether you’re restoring a classic car or driving one on a daily basis, this comprehensive and easy-to-use kit allows you to maintain your vehicle’s leather upholstery for the long term.
