The first Ibiza fully integrated into the Volkswagen era. Shared platform, German engineering in the background, but a more Latin temperament in its styling. In Cupra version, with a 2.0 16V engine and later a 1.8T, a firm chassis, and genuine performance. It marks the moment when Seat stopped experimenting and became credible in the face of established GTIs.
Second generation of the model, the Ibiza type 6K now shares a large number of mechanical parts and chassis derived from Volkswagen models such as the Golf II, Golf III and Polo. Produced and marketed until 2002, the Ibiza underwent a major restyling in 1999 and some newer engines were also added to the range. On the diesel engine side, we dig directly into the 1.9 blocks of Golf III and IV, from the simple atmospheric 64hp to the high-performance 110hp TDi whose reputation is second to none today. The choice of petrol engines is not without rest. From the modest 50hp 1.0 to the Polo 6N 1.4 16s, the range is also expanding with 16-valve Golf GTi 1.8 and 2.0 blocks. Phase 2 receives the famous 20VT block for 20 turbo valves well known in Audi A3, TT and Golf IV.
