On a classic car, windows get dirty quickly: greasy film, rain streaks, stubborn mist in winter. The Mecatechnic window cleaning kit has been designed to tackle this: five complementary products to clean, wipe, repel water and prevent misting without leaving streaks.
Kit contents
- AUTOGLYM Express Cleaner for windscreens and windows, 500 ml spray
- RAIN-X Rain Repellent, 200 ml bottle
- RAIN-X Anti-Fog, 200 ml bottle
- Embossed microfibre cloth
- Multi-purpose microfibre cloth
Step-by-step instructions:
- Clean the windows. On a cold window in the shade, spray the express cleaner over the entire surface, both inside and out. Spread it with the multi-purpose microfibre cloth, using straight strokes, to lift away grease and dirt. (Start with a thorough clean: the treatments do not adhere well to a dirty window.)
- Wipe until streak-free. Run the embossed microfibre cloth over the still-damp windscreen, unfolding it flat. Turn it over regularly to use a dry side. Check against the light to ensure there are no streaks or marks left.
- Apply the rain repellent to the outside. On clean, dry glass, place a small amount of product onto the multi-purpose microfibre cloth and spread it in a thin, even layer over the windscreen and side windows. Leave it to work according to the instructions on the bottle. (Use the rain repellent only on the outside of the windows.)
- Buff the surface. Using a clean, dry side of the microfibre cloth, polish until the glass is perfectly clear and smooth. Water should bead up and run off the glass.
- Treat the inside with the anti-fog treatment. On a clean, dry interior window, apply a thin layer of the anti-fog treatment using the embossed microfibre cloth, then polish gently. Pay particular attention to the windscreen and rear window. (Avoid the seals, trim and dashboard.)
Tips
- Always work in the shade and on cool windows to prevent the products from drying too quickly and leaving streaks.
- Do not spray the cleaner onto the dashboard or trim: apply it to the microfibre cloth, especially inside the car, to protect fabrics and leather.
- On the rear window, wipe gently with the microfibre cloth without rubbing too hard, so as not to damage the heating elements.
- Also clean the windscreen wiper blades before cleaning the windows: they can leave dirt behind. If they are worn, replace them.
- Reapply the rain repellent as soon as water stops beading on the glass.
- Wash the microfibre cloths separately, without fabric softener, to preserve their absorbency.
