The fourth generation of the BMW series 3 was presented in 1997 and commercialized the following year, available in 4 versions : sedan, break (Touring), coupé and cabriolet. It was equipped at first with the same range of engines as its precursor the E3, coupled with 2 Diesel : a 4-cylinders 2.0l (136hp & 150hp) as well as a 6-cylinders 3.0l (183hp & 204hp). The range of petrol motorizations was renewed in 2000 with the arrival of the 2.2l (270hp), 2.5l (192hp) and 3.0l (231hp). In 2001, BMW presented its M3, which was only proposed on the coupé and the cariolet. Under its hood we find a 6-cylinders in line of 3246cm³ developing 343hp, associated with the dual system VANOS and a sequential gearbox with no less than 11 different modes, from the soft to the sport. A version even more exclusive, the M3 CSL (Coupé Sport Light) was commercialized in 2003 with a 6-cylinders of 360hp. It was distinguishable thanks to its carbon roof. The series 3 E46 was commercialized until 2005, when she gave way to the version E90.
