A logical evolution of the NA, the NB abandons the pop-up headlights but retains the essentials: lightness, rear-wheel drive, and a willing naturally aspirated engine. Increased rigidity, more precise handling, and improved reliability. It doesn't seek revolution; it perfects the formula. Still as playful, still as accessible. A coherent sports car that bucks the trend of the 2000s.
The Mazda MX-5 NB is the second roadster model offered by Mazda. Its design began in 1994, when sales of the NA ran out of steam. This model was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1997. It was marketed from 1998 to 2005. The Mazda Mk2 has more advanced equipment and its design has been somewhat modified: the retractable headlights are removed as well as the boss of the bonnet. This roadster has two engines: the 1.6l of 110 hp and the 1.8l of 140 hp. The latter was modified in 2001, to reach 146 hp at 7000 rpm. In 1999, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the brand, a version was produced, it was nicknamed 10 AE. 7500 copies are created, this model has a 6-speed manual gearbox.
