This hoist was a great help in supporting the engine to replace the gasket and crankcase on my parents' car. Very good product. The most time-consuming part is winding the chain in the right direction to raise the hook that will lift the motor. The brake, which consists of a horizontal metal rod, can be tapped with a finger to release it, allowing the hook to be raised or lowered.
