From 1997 to 2003, the Golf 4 sold over 4.3 million units. This version is characterized by the pooling of engines, gearboxes, and chassis solutions within the Volkswagen group (Audi, Seat, and Skoda shared with VW).

We will particularly remember the excellent 1.8l Turbo 20 valves (150hp) and the many TDi in 90, 110, and 130hp. The success of the Golf 4 is already assured by the good reputation of its predecessors.

A version of the convertible called Golf 4 will, in fact, only be a restyling of the Golf 3 convertible; the nuance is not obvious as the second design is inspired by the front face of the Golf 4!

The career of this fourth generation is marked by the 25th anniversary of the Golf model, then those of the Golf GTI. At the top of this 4th version of the Golf, we find the heiress of the VR6, the Golf R32 (3.2l) and its 241 then 250hp.

Equipped with all-wheel drive, it is on this ultra-sporty model that Volkswagen's double-clutch automatic gearbox, the famous DSG gearbox, was inaugurated.
