Appeared in 1988 in Europe, the third generation of VW Passat marks a radical change from its predecessors. Its more rounded look contrasts with the very angular shapes of the B3 version. This version is the first to be produced on a platform produced by VW, and not borrowed from cousin Audi. Sold in more than 5 million copies all the same, it is offered as a 4-door sedan or as a 5-door station wagon (variant). In terms of engines, the range is made up of 1.8l in 90hp and even a G60 of 160hp and 2.8l VR6 petrol (2.9l in VR6 Syncro), and a 1.9l TDi. In 1993, the Passat B3 took advantage of a stroke of the pencil to renew a few body parts and the radiator grille, which had been absent until then. We also note the appearance of standard airbags, safety having become a priority for the German manufacturer. At the same time, a new direct injection Turbo Diesel engine (1.9L) appeared, allowing the VW Passat III to claim 1800km with a single tank!
