Arriving in 2001, the VW Polo 9N, or Polo IV, broke with the previous versions. More imposing, it is the largest in its category. Aesthetically, it is recognizable by its grille equipped with four round optics, which it borrows from its little sister, the Lupo. It is available in 2 bodies, 3 or 5 doors, four trim levels are offered, from the basic version (Polo) to the luxury version (Carat) via a crossover version (Dune) which will remain very little catalog time. Much more expensive than its competitors, the Polo was reviewed in 2003, not to evolve but to go downmarket and offer more affordable selling prices. The materials lose quality, and the carat version is removed from the catalog. However, we note the arrival of a Polo Sport version, equipped with the 1.9l TDi 130 engine and finishes equivalent to what was done on the luxury version. The real second-generation Polo 9N only arrived at the end of 2005. Identifiable by its new grille, which no longer uses round optics, and its more modern rear lights, it harmonizes with the brand's new style. This 9N3 polo is marked by the arrival of a GTI version, among the 7 finishes available. This version is equipped with a 1.8 Turbo petrol engine of 150hp. After 8 years of marketing, it was finally replaced by the Polo V in 2009.
