Taking full advantage of the reputation of its predecessor, the Combi Split T1 and its 1.8 million units sold, the Combi T2 Bay Window arrived on the market in August 1967 under the 1968 model year. More modern and comfortable, it is also much safer thanks to its large glass surfaces, and in particular its undivided and strongly curved windscreen (hence its name \"Bay Window\""), which significantly improve the driver's visibility. This second generation of the Combi is equipped with a new 1600cc engine and a gimbaled gearbox, which allow cruising to reach 110km/h. During 1968, the 2 millionth Combi was produced. Technical evolution of active safety: the appearance of disc brakes at the front from the 1971 model year. Aesthetic and safety evolution in 1972 and 1973: the Combi adopts larger lights and bigger bumpers. It was only 11 years later, in 1979, that the third version of the VW utility, the Transporter T3, was presented."
