On an air-cooled VW engine, the seal between the heater box and the exhaust is an essential part of the heating system. This joint is located between the exhaust manifold and the pipe that feeds the heater, helping to prevent exhaust gas leaks into the passenger compartment.

The heater box on a Bay Window Combi uses the heat generated by the engine and exhaust to heat the interior of the vehicle. This system is called hot-air heating. The gasket prevents exhaust gases from entering the heating system and contaminating the air inside the vehicle.

If the gasket is worn, cracked or loose, exhaust gases can seep into the cabin, which is dangerous for passengers (carbon monoxide emissions).

A defective gasket can lead to a loss of heating system efficiency.

A damaged gasket can allow exhaust gases to escape, creating an unpleasant odor inside the Combi.

If you regularly experience problems with heat in your Combi, this may be linked to a fault in the heating system, including the gasket between the heater box and the exhaust.

This gasket is suitable for VW Combi Bay Window engine Type 4 :

- 1700 (CA, EA) from 08/71 to 12/74

- 1800 (AP, AN, AT, EC) from 08/73 to 07/75

- 2000 (CJ) from 08/76 to 07/79

Also suitable for VW 412
