POWERLITE high-efficiency starter (High Torque mini starter) for Porsche 924 and 924 S from 1976 to 1988 :

- 924 2.5 S - 150 hp (M44.07/M44.08) from 1986 to 1987
- 924 2.0 Turbo - 170 hp (M31.01) from 1979 to 1980
- 924 2.0 Turbo - 177 hp (M31.03) from 1981 to 1985

The Powerlite starter is designed to replace the often heavy and inefficient original starters on older vehicles. More powerful and more modern, it improves engine rotation speed during starting, while reducing the strain on the battery.
Optimized power: 1.4 kW compared with 0.8 to 1.1 kW for a conventional starter, depending on version.
Higher torque: faster, more efficient motor drive.
Reduced consumption: less current required, preserving the voltage available for other electrical components.
Heavy original starters with worn windings can generate resistance and heat up the wiring harness, slowing down engine speed during the start-up phase and straining the battery.
With mechanical injection systems such as K-Jetronic, insufficient rpm doesn't always allow the sensor plate to tilt sufficiently, considerably complicating starting. The resistance of an old winding can also cause the fuel pump voltage to drop during the starting phase, preventing sufficient pressure from being built up for starting, especially when the engine is hot.
The Powerlite starter corrects this problem by driving the engine faster, while drawing less power from the battery.
