I've replaced all the joint profiles on my cox, mig-welded using the original welding points, but this time I applied two coats of rustol on top and in the hollows before painting. This should prevent rust from eating them up again. The best thing to do is to drill holes every 5/10 cm and apply rustproofing to the underside of the profile before spot-welding them back together.
