The USA-style tail light glass for a VW Combi is a tail light model designed for versions exported to the USA, or those that have been modified to meet American safety standards. These taillights are often characterized by red and white lenses and different light configurations (turn signals, brake lights and reversing lights) compared to European versions, which may have slightly different configurations in terms of color and arrangement of light elements.

USA-style rear lights for VW Combi are divided into two sections: a red lens for position, brake and blinker lights, and a white lens for reversing lights. This configuration complies with US road safety standards.

USA-type tail lights must meet specific criteria in terms of brightness, visibility and light positioning to comply with US traffic standards.

The aesthetics of USA taillights are sometimes distinguished by a bright red lens and a housing often made of transparent or opaque plastic. They can give a slightly more modern or different appearance compared with conventional European taillights.

Although specifically designed for VW Combis exported to the USA, these lights can also be fitted to European versions of the Combi if you're looking for a different look, or if you're restoring a vehicle in an American style (Califormia, Florida).

To replace the rear light glass, start by unscrewing the externally visible screws that hold the glass in place on the housing.

Once the screws are removed, you can remove the old taillight lens. If the lens is cracked or broken, it can be easily removed. Be careful not to injure yourself if the lens is cracked or broken, as the plastic can be sharp.

Take this opportunity to check the condition of the rear light wiring and bulbs. If bulbs are worn or defective, replace them at the same time. Make sure electrical connections are clean, solid and free from oxidation.

Place the new taillight lens in the housing. Check that the mounting is correct and that the lens is secure.

Once the lens has been installed, check that the rear lights are working properly: position light, brake light, turn signal and reversing light. Make sure that all functions are operational and that the lights are correctly aligned.

Please note that the installation of USA-type windows is not approved, in particular because the indicators turn red instead of orange. You could be fined by the police and no longer be accepted for roadworthiness testing.

This lens alone, sold individually without USA model support: red / red / white is suitable for VW Combi Bay Window from 08/1971 to 07/1979 since chassis no. 212 2000 001.
