Mercedes-Benz was born in 1926 from the merger between Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG), Mercedes and Benz & Cie. In October of the same year are presented at the Berlin Motor Show the first 3 cars of the brand: the prototype W01 developed with the help of Ferdinand Porsche, W02 and W03. (W prefix for Wagen = car)
After the tumult of the Third Reich and the Second World War, Mercedes-Benz makes a change of style on its cars. The famous SL with butterfly doors appeared in 1952 with the W194 race model that prevailed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Carrera Panamericana. There will be many good performances and victories in different categories such as Formula 1 with the McLaren team in 1993.
The brand will be very innovative in the following decades, especially with the production in series of the first 5-cylinder Diesel Sedan (the 240 in 1974) and the Turbo Diesel model (the 300 SD in 1977). It will also offer the ABS system from 1978, airbags (optional) from 1981 on the S-Class and will equip all models from 1992 onwards.
Mercedes will never be in delay on the technical side with 1985 appearance of the system of automatic differential lock (ASD), the traction control (ASR) and the 4Matic electronic steering system, then the dynamic behavior control system (ESP ) in 1995.
The years 80/90 will be marked by the success of models 190 type W201 and Class E type W124 whose reputation is well established!
