Following BMW's success in selling 300,000 units of the Z3, the Bavarian firm followed up at the end of 2002 with the launch of its new model: the Z4. Available as both a Roadster (E85) and a Coupé (E86), the neo-retro curves of its ancestor have been replaced by a modern design with taut, broken lines. In terms of engines, it's no slouch, ranging from the 150bhp 2.0i 4-cylinder (roadster only) to the legendary 343bhp 3.2L S54 6-cylinder derived from the E46 M3 (for M versions). The new model was just as popular as its big sister, the Z3, selling 100,000 units by the end of 2004. In April 2006, the Z4 underwent a restyling (slight modification of the front bumper, which became more angular and now features rectangular fog lamps, as well as a change in the visual signature of the rear lights), which will keep aficionados waiting until the next Z4 model, the E89 type.
