Launched in 1988, the BMW series 5 E34 was bigger, more comfortable and more aerodynamic than its precursor. Concerning the motorizations, only 1 block 4 cylinders remained in the catalogue: the 113hp of the 518i, for the rest, BMW proposed 5 blocks 6 cylinders from 129 to 211hp. Only one version Diesel was available from its launch, the 524td of 115hp. From 1992, the range increased with the arrival of the break version, called 'Touring': which seduced by a rare elegance for this type of car body. In the same year, BMW introduced a new stronger Diesel engine, the 525tsd of 143hp, and in 1993, the old block L6 of the beginning of the 1970's gave way to a big V8, which equip the 530i and 540i. Two sporting versions of the series 5 E34 were available from 1989, the famous M5 of 315hp and then 340hp as well as the Alpina B10 BiTurbo equipped with a L6 of 360hp! The production of this third generation of BMW series 5 came to an end in 1996.
