Brake drum shoes are an essential component of the drum brake system. They play a crucial role in the braking process.
Brake shoes are semicircular metal parts fitted with friction pads (composite material) on their outer surface.
When the driver depresses the brake pedal, a hydraulic cylinder pushes the shoes outwards inside the brake drum, exerting pressure against the drum's inner surface.
This friction between the shoes and the drum slows and stops the wheel, bringing the car to a halt.
If an abnormal noise is heard, it may be a sign that the brake shoes are worn and the friction material is too thin or missing. This reduces brakingefficiency, lengthens the vehicle's stopping distance or even creates a braking imbalance, causing the vehicle to roll away.
It's essential to regularly check the condition of the brake shoes. If they are too worn, they must be replaced to ensure vehicle safety. In addition to the shoes, the drums must also be inspected, as a warped or worn drum can lead to a loss of braking efficiency.
This set of rear brake shoes, suitable for 2-wheelers, is essential if you want to start braking again, so don't forget to check the condition of wheel cylinders, springs, brake pads, etc. For your own safety and that of others, don't hesitate at the slightest doubt.
