This TOOLATELIER valve honing tool is an indispensable aid for restoring car and motorcycle engines.

What's the point of valve honing ?

Good engine performance depends on valves with correct seats and seals. Poorly seated or carbonized valves, together with worn guides and stems, lead to hot gases escaping under pressure, reducing performance and increasing engine deterioration. Symptoms include loss of power and poor starting.

How does the run-in work?

It converts rotation into oscillating movement. Very practical, it fits standard 5/16"(8 mm) chuck drills. Polishes valves in two quick passes, producing gas-tight seals in seconds. Suction cup diameters 22/28/30/39 mm fit most valves.

Allows valves to be honed in the same way as by hand (oscillating movement), but much faster and more evenly.

The 4 suction cup sizes allow use on a wide range of valves, including the smallest. This is often a problem, according to some consumers' reviews of other brands. I recommend this product.

This hob seems to meet my expectations. However, it lacks instructions on how quickly to use it.

Stiff suction cups, but the product oscillates well. Noticeable jerking when changing direction. It's clearly stated that this is to be used with fine grit, and I think that's right. I prefer to do the coarse grit by hand, as you feel the work better and put less pressure on the valve.
