The range Audi 80, commercialized between 1972 and 1995, bring 4 versions of this model together, known under the references B1 (1972-1978), B2 (1972-1986), B3 (1986-1991) and B4 (1991-1995). The success of the first generation is due to an excellent mix between comfort, dynamism and an auto-stabilizing steering in case of emergency braking, which perfectly correspond to the expectations of the modern customer of that time. The Audi 80 B1 was replaced in 1978 by the B2. This second version adopted in 1984 the integral quattro transmission, coming from the coupé that has the same name, on all the petrol models starting at 90hp. In the same year appeared the Audi 80, which was in fact the name given to the two most luxurious versions of the Audi 80. The third generation of the Audi 80 appeared in 1986, and was equipped with two petrol motorization of 90 and 112hp and a Diesel engine of 75hp. It was gone with the version Audi 90 with 5-cylinder engines developing until 170hp (Audi 90 20V). A version Audi Coupé, with two doors, was presented in 1988. Fitted with a reduced thickening, a modified rear suspension and a new front suspension system, it prefigured the arrival of the Audi B4. It was also from this model that the Audi 80 cabriolet was launched one year later. The evolution of the version B3 towards the B4 is just an improvement of the chassis, making the thickening longer than 8cm, and some esthetical details pretty much discreet. Three sporting versions of this Audi B4 were commercialized: the 80 Competition, with 2500 produced copies and equipped with an engine 140hp, and the versions S2 and RS2, developing between 220hp and 315hp, according to the model and the year of production. It should be noted that the RS2 was prepared by Porsche on the version Avant (break) of the Audi 80.
