The first Audi A6 C4 was in fact an Audi 100 C4 which underwent a slight restyling. In spite of its style, which started to show signs of age, this rejuvenation was a good thing and allowed it to compete with the Mercedes-Benz and others BMW until its replacement in 1997 by the new version. It was equipped in entry-level product with the 1.8l 125hp and 1.9l TDi 90hp. The most powerful and luxurious version, called the Audi S6 plus benefited from a V8 4.2l of 326hp, borrowed to its older sister, the A8. Available in sedan or break, front-wheel drive or Quattro (according to the motorization), it was assembled in Neckarsulm, in Germany, until 1997, when the commercialization of this version came to end.
