While experts foresee the imminent end of the 911 era, Porsche presents the 911 Carrera 4 or type 964 in 1988. A completely new vehicle, it has been modified to 85% compared to the previous version. Equipped with a 3.6l air-cooled boxer engine, developing 250hp, the Porsche is distinguished in particular by its aerodynamic polyurethane bumpers, replacing those with bumpers and bellows of the previous version, as well as by its rear spoiler which opens automatically at 80 km/h. The interior is also completely revised. It is focused on safety and performance, with the appearance of power steering, airbags, ABS and, as an option, the availability of the Tiptronic automatic gearbox. In total, Porsche offered 4 versions of its 964, in the Carrera, Cabriolet, Targa and 964 Turbo versions from 1990. The 964 and its derivatives were marketed until 1994.
