The Porsche 911 type 996, released in 1997, is the first Porsche equipped with the 6-cylinder boxer 3.4l, then 3.6l (2001) water-cooled engine. The latter evolves in terms of noise reduction and consumption, in particular thanks to its cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder, while gaining power to reach 296hp. From a design point of view, the 996 is undoubtedly the 911 that stands out the most from its ancestor the frog. Although its lines respect those of the Porsche 911 lineage, its neither round nor ellipsoidal optics, incorporating turn signals, are shared with the Boxster released a year earlier and are a real break with the 911 style. until 2004, when it was replaced by the 997.
