From 2004 to 2012, the 997 reconciled purists after the 996. Classic headlights, improved perceived quality, still the water-cooled flat-six but with more character. A wide range of versions, from the Carrera to the GT3 RS. Modern, yet still mechanical in feel. The perfect balance between tradition and contemporary efficiency.
Presented by Porsche in 2004, the 911 type 997 reconnects with traditions. The circular optics are again present at the front. Its 3.6l boxer flat 6 engine is pushed to 320hp, always water-cooled (since the 996). The range of engines was quickly completed by a 3.8l 6-cylinder 355hp, which was delivered on the 911 Carrera S, and later improved in order to equip the other S versions of the 911 (with the exception of the GT2 RS). Never has a 911 been available in as many versions as the 997. Carrera, Carrera 4, Turbo (2006), Targa, GT and their S and RS versions represent nearly 24 911 models available! This 997 version of Porsche also holds the record for the best-selling 911, with a peak of 38,922 units sold in 2007! Slightly redesigned in 2008, it adopts LED daytime running lights and brake lights and benefits from a rejuvenation of the bumpers allowing it to extend its career for another 4 years before the arrival of the 991.
