Launched in the summer of 1991, while the Golf 2 finish its career, the third generation of the Volkswagen best-seller arrives with an uptated and rounder design. The sports versions and Diesel remain the favourite models, GTI (115 and 150hp) and TDI (90 and 110hp), helped by the arrival in 1992 of the Golf VR6, equipped with a new and captivating V6 compact engine of 2800cc which deliver 174hp, then 2900cc for 190hp in Syncro version with 4-wheel drive. A special series of the Golf GTI was proposed in 1996 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the sports model, followed by a Diesel version still very popular, the GT TDI. With the arrival of the Golf 3, we note the comeback of the cabriolet, proposed this time in both petrol and Diesel TDI. The career of this Golf 3 and its 4,8 millions of sold copies brought to 17 millions the total number of VW Golf produced since 1974.
