The emergence of the project Scirocco comes from the idea of Volkswagen to renew its range. The Beetle and Karmann Ghia growing old, VW considered its future models. The idea of a coupé came from the Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, while he worked on the project Golf in the early 1970s. Built in collaboration with the factory Karmann, which was already producing the Karmann Ghia, 795 650 copies of the VW Scirocco were produced between 1974 and 1994, with a restyling in 1981.
